Creosote Build-up Removal
Creosote is a black, tar-like substance from combustion smoke that forms on the walls inside your fireplace and chimney.

Creosote is very flammable, light and porous

When the appliance heats up and cools off, it begins to flake.

Creosote can continue to buildup, blocking the chimney and reducing natural draft. This blockage can cause a reduced natural draft(being more susceptible to back drafting/filling your home with smoke) and/or a chimney fire.

Creosote can also fall off, the black debris dropping down when opening the damper. During a regular fire, these flakes can ignite and either float up and out the chimney onto your roof, or settle inside the chimney with other creosote buildup, causing a chimney fire.

Animal debris is very common in chimneys, causing backdrafting/filling home with smoke and possible chimney fires. We recommend getting your appliance serviced every year, later summer/early fall after the birds and other animals have stopped nesting.
